It can be easy to make excuses when you are working to create a healthier and slimmer body. But then, people make excuses in many areas of their lives. So it may be worthwhile to ask, why do we make excuses?

Often there are limiting beliefs at play which negatively impact thinking in a way that sabotage weight loss efforts. Sometimes these excuses are not at the conscious level. Limiting believes may be around deserving to be healthy or creating an all or nothing set of expectations.

The all or nothing set of expectations are often associated with addictive behaviours that have been set up at a time of high vulnerability and suggestibility. What does this mean? It means that a set of excuses are designed at the subconscious level as a means to cope with or manage a set of circumstances.

However, these old “excuses” are no longer required or valid in the here and now. They are programmed responses continuing to play themselves out. So no matter what weight loss promises you make to yourself on a conscious level, the subconscious mind will continue to serve up the same old excuses.

For example, some people have an unconscious limiting belief that being thin is associated with ill health or that becoming slim again will create conflict within the marriage. This becomes a subconscious excuse that sabotages weight loss efforts, primarily because it cannot be confronted while it is still unknown.
