It may well be, since there is very little that we do in a mindful manner. Most of our time is spent multi-tasking in one manner or another. Eating in a mindful manner requires the ability to be present. This in and of itself is a challenge for people. Much of our day is spent in automatic robotic mode. Being present is a skill that most people need to relearn.

It is common for people to eat while they read, watch television, work, drive, work or walk around. Few people sit and savor their meals in a purposeful fashion. More often eating is a rush and frenzied activity.

More food then is necessary for adequate nutrition is consumed because we plow through our meals. The subtle signal of being full is not felt. Tastes do not register and there is little pleasure in the food that is wolfed down. 

Eating in a mindful manner has elegance and this style of consuming food can be deliberately programmed. There are many benefits to this method of eating, some of which are personal to you and some not yet at conscious level awareness.
