It is easy to feel angry about being overweight and it is easy to use food to manage this emotion. It is a vicious cycle that may feel outside of your control. The reality is that our emotions are easily triggered. Our emotions are stored at subconscious level and can sometimes surprise us.

However, more often then not, on a day to day basis our emotions do not need to be surprising, we can become more aware of what does trigger anger and begin to create new ways to manage this emotion. Often people will say that an emotion "came out of the blue" and it certainly may feel that way. However, once we begin to look at this feeling in a new way we realize that like everything else, it is most often a habitual patterned response. This is a GOOD thing because it means we can begin to systematically tweak this response.

Some triggers are signals that right now and here today our needs and desires are not being met. That anger may motivate us to do something different. Some anger is simply a conditioned response to something that has subconsciously reminded us, through association, of a time when we were justifiably irritated.

Anger is a powerful emotion and it makes sense to begin to develop a new relationship with this part of you. Anger and frustration often go hand in hand. Attempts to move into a healthier and slimmer body often feel thwarted by circumstances and old triggers. Chronic aggravation impacts our body, mind and spirit. It steals energy, willpower, and has devastating impacts on our relationship with ourselves and with others.

We can begin to create a new place for this emotion in a creative playful manner, one that acknowledges its existence but is thoughtful about how much place it is allowed to have in our lives. Anger is a normal human emotion that offers us information. We do not want to deny it, or banish it, this is not realistic, and we do need to begin to create a healthier relationship with it.
