Questions and Answers

Q. What is hypnosis?
A. Hypnosis is a heightened state of mental alertness

Q. What is hypnosis NOT?
Hypnosis is NOT:

  • Sleep
  • Loss of self-control
  • Being weak-minded
  • A state of being like a zombie
  • Being controlled by someone
Q. Why should I consider hypnosis?
A. People often consider seeing a hypnotherapist because they:
  • have a holistic mindset towards health and a respect for the power of the mind/body connection
    and/or
  • believe that they have tried everything else to achieve results but without success.

Q. What type of person sees a clinical hypnotherapist?
A. Generally people who come to see a hypnotherapist are open minded, creative and ready to engage in the change process.

People from all walks of life benefit from the process. You can learn more about our client base.

Q. What can I expect during the first session?

A. Sessions last one and a half hours. You will receive an intake, hypnosis, solution focused coaching and neuro linguistic programming. Usually you will leave with an assignment aimed at helping you to continue the shifts that have begun. Often a CD is made during the session you will be asked to take it home and to listen to it.

Q. How many sessions will I need to come to?
A. You will ultimately decide how many sessions are required. Some clients attend one session while others attend up to six sessions or more. Your presenting concern, openness to the process and willingness to complete assignments will be determining factors. As with any other helping professional that you may choose to see:

  • A hypnotherapist can only determine potential length of involvement after meeting you
  • Sessions continue until you feel the issue has been resolved and you are able to comfortably maintain attitudinal and behavioural changes independantly.

Q. Can I be hypnotised?
A. Hypnosis will feel familiar; you have done it before. Each of us goes in and out of a "trance" like state regularly. We all daydream, "zone out" or "tune in" at different times during the course of our days. This is how our mind naturally functions; it is normal and healthy. Individuals who are open minded, confident and creative are generally more able to begin work with ease. More analytical and/or tense individuals have to work a little harder but often have the most to gain.

Q. Who is Terri?
A. Terri has been a registered social worker for 20 years. She has received extensiive training in hypnotherapy and neuro linguistic programming. You may read more about Terri in the about section.
