Moving forward in any area of your life requires the ability to be in charge of your emotions. These three simple steps, if used, can support you to begin to feel more in control.
1. Recognize that most emotions are nothing more then automatic subconscious robotic responses to "triggers."
2. Accept that emotions are something that we can choose.
3. Choose the preferred emotion and practice it. Yes, practice.
I am 100% aware that these three steps might seem a little black and white. However, if you are experiencing frequent feelings of unease the reality is that you have become very skilled at being unhappy. So talented, in fact that it is easy for you to "go there" with the most minimal of triggers.
This is submission to triggers. Get off your knees. Quit being a slave to your emotions.
Getting on board with 1-3 puts you in a more powerful position. Why? Because many triggers are outside of our control. Being "in control" has received a bad rap. If we truly want to create a life that has meaning and joy we need to have some realistic level of control.
