Hypnosis -Quick Fixes, Ethics, Learning and Assignments
As a clinical hypnotherapist and registered social worker I believe strongly in providing ethical service. Clients do not come to Hypnosis for Life to get "zapped" and sent on their way.
We must learn to use our incredible and amazing mind, not hand it over to a stranger. Lasting change is a process; you learn and you practice, Yes, dreaming about a lasting "quick fix" is a nice fantasy, just not very realistic.
Hypnotherapy that incorporates learning is an incremental and empowering process. Conditioning ourselves towards new thoughts and behaviours takes repetition, emotional intensity, commitment and ethical support. Re-conditioning ourself for success can certainly be done; but not generally in one session.
Utilising the senses, the imagination and zeroing in on learning styles is important in the process. Sometimes clients are asked to take notes during sessions, always to participate fully by asking questions and to take part in suggestion formulation. Assignments such as journaling and taking home a custom CD to "practice" with are common.
The learning and excitement begins in the office and must be generalized to life outside of this learning environment. Clients are encouraged to be realistic about the long term gain and maintenance issues when they ask for a quick fix. Quick fixes do not last. Changes that are are result of internal conditioning through a learning process can and do last!
