Edmonton hypnotherapy questions and answers

What happens in a hypnosis session?

Q. Can I be hypnotized?
A.The answer is most likely yes, because we all have some natural level of hypnosis on and off throughout the day. Our brain waves change and we are more open to suggestion in certain states. Some people are able to readily access hypnotic state with more ease, some people simply need a little practice. We can access deep levels of trance and lighter levels. The degree is less significant then the hypnotic suggestions.

The level of comfort/trust with the hypnotherapist and a persons general ease in a new situation are factors. Over the course of the 2 1/2 hour session most people become very comfortable and readily settle in. Those more "anxious" individuals who are less able to let down their guard benefit from the repetition offered via the mp3 we create. Listening to this audio in the comfort of your own home allows you to begin to condition a deeper state of hypnosis.

Q. What is hypnosis?
A. Hypnosis is a heightened state of mental alertness that allows for self discovery work and reprogramming of thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Q. What is hypnosis NOT?
A. Sleep, loss of self-control, being weak-minded, a state of being like a zombie or being controlled by someone

Q. Are results guaranteed?
A. You have not received a guarantee from your doctor, medication, self help or other types of therapy. What that should tell you is that the common denominator is not about what service providers have offered but instead, that the subconscious mind has not been systematically and deliberately engaged as a part of the equation.

If you ask instead..."will this service support me in discovery work and reprogramming my mind for a more successful outcome?" Then the answer is yes. When you begin to deliberately engage the subconscious level, you stand a much better chance of creating and maintaining change. Your ability to come to session with an open mind, to fully engage with me and to honor the agreements made will best determine your success. I believe that is as fair and honest an answer as anyone can possibly offer you and would encourage you to be wary of any hypnotherapist offering promises. An ethical professional will not do this.

Q. How many hypnosis sessions are required?
A. You will ultimately decide how many sessions are required. However, I am realistic that you will attend one, maybe two at the most. My sessions are 2 1/2 hours so that I can fit my own professional and ethical requirements of offering you as much as is feasibly possible during one session, knowing that most people hope to accomplish their goals in one session.

We cover quite a bit and do not lose momentum between sessions this way. You will be offered maintenance strategies, because again, I am realistic about how many times you will attend.

Q.What are the fees?
You can learn about fees here.

Q.When is hypnotherapy not advisable?
A. Schizophrenia, bipolar conditions, suicidal tendencies, senility, alcohol or drug psychosis, pathological personalities or manic depression are not a fit.

Q. Why should I consider hypnosis?
A. People often consider seeing a hypnotherapist because they:

  • have a holistic mindset towards health and a respect for the power of the mind/body connection
    and/or
  • believe that they have tried everything else to achieve results but without success.

Q. What type of person sees a clinical hypnotherapist?
A. Generally people who come to see a hypnotherapist are open minded, creative and ready to engage in the change process. People come from all over to benefit from this service.

People from all walks of life benefit from the process. You can learn more about our client base.
